HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Chemistry was established during the academic year 2015-2016. The duration of this degree course is three years. Initially the department had Bachelor’s degree programme in Chemsitry. The department grew to the next level with the addition of MSc degree programme in the year 2019. The purpose of chemistry is to study and explore such objects as vast varieties of materials that constitute nature, the magnificent realms of materials and living organisms built upon them. the enhancement of basic understanding in science, the creation or invention of new materials, new methodologies for observation, and analysis of materials based on that basic understanding, depend on each individual. Thus chemistry forms the very basis not only of natural science and engineering but also of a wide variety of areas including medicine, pharmacy, agriculture and environmental science. After completing their undergraduate study project, most students choose to further continue their studies in the Department of Chemistry or another branch of Chemistry to work towards their Master's Degree.

Vision

To be globally relevant and equipped by educating students to contribute in dynamic, technology-centered world, to provide comprehensive curriculum in chemical sciences, research art and global service/engagement opportunities

Mission

M1. Provide quality of chemical knowledge in the disciplines of organic, inorganic, analytical and physical chemistry by procuring a unique learning environment to the students.

M2. Promote the working knowledge in the field of thermodynamics, equilibrium, kinetics, reactivities of substances and organic synthesis to boost the technical skills of students as well as faculty members.

M3. Accomplish excellence in ethical and value based education by promoting eco-friendly based projects to the students which enhances the social needs.

M4. Establish creativity of the students in an innovative manner and promote industrial interaction to improve the employability skills

HOD's Desk

Welcome to the Department of Chemistry at Faculty of Arts and Science, Bharath Institute of Science & Technology, Chennai. Our department was established in the year 2015. The department offers undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral programmes. The primary focus of our curriculum is to impart technical knowledge to students, promote their problem-solving skills and innovation of new technologies. The students are encouraged to undertake various research projects. Our department has a distinguished record in both teaching and research. Faculty members have excellent academic credentials and are highly experienced. We provide an opportunity for students to work as members of a team on multidisciplinary projects. We have a very favourable faculty-to-student ratio, which encourages close contact between students and their faculty mentors. This allows the faculty to give personalized attention to the academic progress of students. Our department is located in a sprawling environment with a state of improvised laboratory facilities.

Our department works with the objective of addressing critical challenges faced by our students in the Industrial area and society. More importantly our unceasing commitment to our students, helps them to learn, grow, develop, and achieve their goals in their pursuit to excel in their professional career.

Department of Chemistry is one of the reputed department in Faculty of Arts and Science with nearly 7 faculty members and 85 Undergraduates, 50 Post graduates, 45 M.Phil scholars and 3 Doctoral scholars. The department’s graduate programme continue to draw from a very strong application pool.

Our department faculties work with excellent team spirit and profound knowledge which leads to key research publications and consultancy in these areas. The department strives to provide a conductive environment for the students to develop analytical and practical skills and apply them to real world problems. To motivate the students, our department organizes regular training programme through hands on experiments via practicals, seminars, workshops, industrial visits, National & International Conferences periodically.

We welcome you all to the Department of Chemistry as undergraduate or post graduate or research scholars and we hope to be part of your success.
